Janis W. Ellsworth joined Cohen & Burnett in the summer of 2008 as the Paralegal/Legal Secretary. Jan’s professional background includes over fifteen years working as a legal secretary for high profile attorneys in various practice groups, especially white collar criminal and civil law. Her role with Cohen & Burnett includes interaction with clients and the preparation and processing of legal documents. Jan was an Air Force Air Traffic Controller from 1968-1972, after which she took time off to raise a family, go to school and graduate from Arizona State University with a B.S. in Environmental Resources in 1981. She worked for the Episcopal Bishop of Arizona and other nonprofits before going into the legal field. Happily married to Warren for 16 years, they have a blended family which includes Jan’s son and daughter, Warren’s two daughters, and five grandchildren. Warren is an office manager in a large full service insurance agency in Falls Church, Virginia. Jan designs and makes her own jewelry, is an avid gardener, loves to read, and especially enjoys her grandchildren. K. Nicci Yang joined Cohen & Burnett, P.C. in the fall of 2008 as the First Impression Specialist/Marketing Associate. Nicci brings with her over seven years of writing, editing, public relations and administrative experience. She also has two years of marketing and design work. As the face and voice of the company, Nicci’s primary goal will be to provide a warm and welcoming environment to anyone who calls or visits the firm. In addition, Nicci not only designed and built, but continues to update the Cohen & Burnett website. She will also assist the Director of Business Development in implementing a robust communications plan for the firm, which will include managing all of the marketing databases, designing event marketing materials, and communicating with clients and vendors on a day-to-day basis. Most recently Nicci has been doing marketing/writing/Web design consulting work where one of her best achievements have included managing a ten-week campaign for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) 2007 Man & Woman of the Year candidate Siu L. Cheung—bringing in $50,000 in just ten months. Her other consulting endeavors have had her providing direct support in implementing local and national publicity for several book and independent film campaigns, as well as designing Websites for several small businesses and non-profit associations like American Independent Writers (formerly Washington Independent Writers) and Family Promise of Beaufort County, a non-profit organization for families in transition. Nicci is an alumnus of the University of Iowa, receiving her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. She also recently acquired an Associate of Arts degree in Web Development from ECPI College of Technology. A transplant from the Midwest, Nicci was raised in Iowa. Email: nicci@cohenandburnett.com
