Andrew M. Vanderhoof, J.D., LL.M, joined Cohen & Burnett, P.C., as an estate planning attorney in October 2007. Andy brings extensive estate planning experience to the firm and he is thrilled to be engaged full time in the practice area of wills, trusts, estates and gifts. Andy is a 1977 graduate of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where he attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Government. He subsequently graduated in 1980 from the Willamette University School of Law in Salem, Oregon. While in law school Andy was the Form Editor on the Willamette University Law Review and headed up the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. When Andy was admitted to the Virginia State Bar in the fall of 1980, he had joined the law firm of Tate & Bywater in Vienna, Virginia. Andy had a general law practice at Tate & Bywater for 21 years. In 2001, Andy joined the preeminent legal publishing firm of BNA Tax Management in Washington, D.C., where he was a Federal Tax Law Editor in the Estates, Gifts & Trusts/Exempt Organizations group. He joined the D.C. Bar in 2002 and completed his LL.M in International Taxation from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia, in 2004.
Andy and his wife Marie have been happily married for over 22 years, and they have two boys. Marie has worked in Human Resources at the CIA for over 25 years, and the boys both attend Virginia Tech. Ian is a senior at Virginia Tech majoring in Computer Science, and Zack is a freshman at Virginia Tech majoring in Business. Both boys have been active in swimming and soccer extensively over the years, among other activities. Although they are now “empty nesters,” Andy and Marie have found their lives to be as busy and engaging as ever.
